TRESTLEBOARD

Awaiting the Sublime Degree of Master Mason:

Bro. Marc Anthony Gabrielle
Bro. Omer Halilovic
Bro. Michael Angelo Thomas
Bro. Levant Ozkurt

FROM THE EAST

Dear Brothers,

First, I would like to express my sincere pleasure with the work of the line of officers in the second degree. As you know, it is our custom for the Senior Warden to officiate as Master during the second degree ritual. Bro. Gibbons ran an outstanding ritual and I am sure this proved to be a memorable experience for the newly passed brothers.

Our February meeting will be graced by a leture on mystery and initiation, given by our Senior Deacon, Bro. Alessandro Gagliardi. His dedication to research will surely be evident in his presentation. I entreat the brothers to take this opportunity to expand their Masonic educations. According to our local celebrity groundhog, we will be be saying goodbye to Winter and welcoming an early Spring. Let us hope that this brings us all an early taste of the corn of nourishment, the wine of refreshment and the oil of joy.

Fraternally,
W:. Charles BoyceW:. Charles Boyce

FROM THE WEST

Dear Brothers,

The Corsairs Club had a great meeting in January. We enjoyed a well attended festive board upstairs at the Limerick House. Six Mariners were present along with an equal number of brothers from other lodges and districts as well as four gentlemen with an interest in Masonry. It was such a success that we will be meeting at the same place this month, on Saturday February 16th at 5pm. Please keep an eye out for the invitation, which should be arriving in your in-boxes next week

It's always great to get together with brothers around the table and this month gives us another chance of doing just that. The First Manhattan District Table Lodge will be held at The Laugh Factory, 669 Eighth Avenue (between 42nd and 43rd Streets), New York City on February 25 beginning at 7pm. The event costs $55 including wine and tips, but we are hoping that Mariners will be able to subsidize part of the cost for our brothers. Last year's table lodge was a highlight of the Masonic year. Don't miss it this time. If you are interested in going, get in touch with me and I'll let you know the details.

The First Manhattan District MAGLA competition will be held on April 14th and the finals on April 29th. It's time to start preparing. The work this year is the first two pages of the Middle Chamber lecture. Mariners will have a good contingent competing and we will be working together to improve our delivery. We can't all win, but everyone will learn a lot! I know, I lost last year, but the friendly criticism I got helped my ritual work. Again, if you are interested in competing, let me know.

Last, but by no means least, the Grand Lecturer's Convention will be held this month on Wednesday February 20th in Masonic Hall. The work to be exemplified will be the first part of the second degree, so all of our fellowcrafts are welcome to attend. At the convention, the Grand Lecturer will explain some of the finer points of ritual. The conventions are always very informative. All the lodges of the district will be represented by delegations so it's a great opportunity to meet some of the brethren from around the district. The lodge with the best attendance has the honor of hosting the event next year and takes home the coveted Potts Award - so please join us there!

There's a lot going on this month. I hope to see you soon,

Sincerely and Fraternally,

Bro. Bill Gibbons, Sr. Warden

HOROSCOPE December-January by W:. Leon Calafiore

Aries (Mar21-Apr20): Unexpected windfalls should abound after the 20th of February. These will not be enough to take early retirement, or to lease a new car, but these small sums ought to come along with some regularity. The amounts are not clear, and may not amount to more than loose change in the sofa cushions; but hey, you never know.

Taurus (Apr 21-May20): Don’t think of the next two months as marking time, but as an opportunity to prepare the beds in your own garden, sort out opinions showing their age from the classic, timeless ones. Make a list of things to accomplish, and thrill at their completion.

Gemini (May 21-June 21): Rejoice, rejoice, and go dancing in the streets (remember to wear a hat). Pluto has finally cleared your mid-heaven. Mars passes through the first part of February, lending you the spark to get up and get things done. Take advantage of a Capricorn, if one has done you an injury. See below.

Cancer (June 22-July 22): “Beware of the Ides of March” is good advice for you darlings; spend February tucking away your valuables. The Moon follows on the heels of Mars, rendering you susceptible to frittering away your resources. Let someone else pick up the check.

Leo (July 23-Aug 22): Sorry to be a bother, but take the time now to prepare, in your inimitable fashion, new and perfect explanations for the things you like to do, and why you are comfortable in your own skin, just as you are. Inquiring minds are preparing to dissect you.

Virgo (Aug 23-Sept 22): Some people wish for the babble of voices to cease in their heads; for others, a small helpful voice in the ear provides comfort. While you are not a news anchor, you might benefit from selective hearing, rather than taking note of every conversation passing through the heavens.

Libra (Sept 23-Oct 22): While you have come to expect an elegant line to explanations offered to you by others, you will be hard pressed to comprehend the overly personal confessions being offered up to you without any provocation. Your home has not been converted in the Oprah set. A plan is afoot to lull you into inattention. Keep your eyes open.

Scorpio (Oct 23-Nov 21): Time to take your nose away from the grindstone, the better to catch the scent of new opportunities before the other hounds. Get plenty of rest, and force fluids as necessary. Have any new business models completed by March 25th.

Sagittarius (Nov 22-Dec 21): Your patience is admirable, and time brings an end to all difficulties. However, you will be dust by the time that offer comes floating through the door, over the transom, or whatever other entrance you are keeping and eye on. You’ve had it good the last few months, time to get your hands dirty.

Capricorn (Dec 22-Jan 19): Sorry, my dear, but the time has come to pay the piper, which is to say you have a lot of explaining to do-to yourself. Venus sidles next door to Aquarius, leaving you a little less sparkling. Listen with new ears to loved ones.

Aquarius (Jan 20-Feb 18): If you bend yourself to everyone else’s least desire, you will soon have a backache, or at least be mistaken for a porter. A polite refusal may not ward off all that baggage being left on the doorstep, but its worth a try.

Pisces (Feb 19-Mar 20): Some new advisors (Mercury, Venus, and Uranus) jump into your pond in March effecting a radical change of view. Your underused feet want to go traveling. You should follow their lead, and expand your acquaintance with geography.
