FROM THE EAST

Dear Brothers,

On Saturday, April 26th the Lodge raised three new brothers as Master Masons. I wish to take this opportunity to welcome Bro. Marc Anthony Gabriele, Bro. Levent Ozkurt and Bro. Michael Angelo Thomas to the lodge. I would also like to formally give my sincere thanks to those brothers who were present to assist in the raisings. You all performed your parts and roles with dedication and proficiency. The guests from other lodges, including one from Prague, all commented that they have rarely seen a thrid degree run so smoothly and with such enthusiasum. Thank you.

Last month, our Junior Warden, Samuel Kinsey competed in the regional Magla competition. Bro. Kinsey previously won the district level Magla, outperforming all the competition from other lodges in our district. The competition at the regional was intense, with excelent memorization and delivery being the norm, and while Bro. Kinsey did not win, he acquited himself admirably. We should be proud to have him as a member of our lodge.

As you know, our regular communication in May is when we elect the officers for the upcoming year. In addition, the third degree lecture will be given to the newly raised brothers by Bro. Bill Gibbons and Bro. Richard Goodwin. I hope that you will attend this important meeting. It is by your participation that our lodge remains strong and vibrant.

Fraternally,
W:. Charles Boyce

FROM THE WEST

Dear Brothers,

The election of the three principal offiers of the lodge will take place this month. All members of Mariners are summoned to cast their ballots. Your participation is an important part of the work of the lodge. This is your chance to signal approval or disapproval of the leadership of your lodge. Nominations of qualified candidates may be made by any brother of Mariners Lodge present.

I will be standing for election as Master. And if elected I pledge to do my utmost to build the lodge and to maintain the traditions of Mariners. Bro Samuel Kinsey will be standing for Senior Warden, and Bro Alessandro Gagliardi for Jr. Warden. Both have done great work for the lodge in the past year and I hope they will have your support.

The appointed officers will be chosen in the next few weeks. All brothers who have an interest in becoming one next year should plan to attend on Wednesday. Let us know if you would like to play a part in running the lodge. Each chair has responsibilities which contribute both to the work of the lodge and to our individual development as men and Masons.

The duty of the Stewards it to assist the Junior Warden at collations and to participate in the degrees. The Masters of Ceremony must prepare candidates for degree work and assist the Senior Warden. The Junior Deacon must attend to alarms at the outer door and announce entering brothers. The Marshal must learn the floorwork, and lead processions during degrees as well as escort distinguished visitors. He assists the Senior Deacon in the education of new brothers. The senior Deacon attends to the altar and plays an important part in the ritual. He is expected to deliver the Middle Chamber Lecture and to take charge of the education of new brothers. All of the officers must begin to learn to speak in lodge, to memorize ritual, and to play a part in the activities of committees.

Those who agree to take on the chairs commit themselves to attending every communication of the year.

If you are ready to serve your lodge and better yourself, you are ready to be an officer.

Fraternally

Bro. Bill Gibbons, Sr. Warden

HOROSCOPE April-May by W:. Leon Calafiore

Aries (Mar21-Apr20): With so many fingers in so many pies, you’ll have to sit back in your potting shed, kick off your boots, and text with your toes. Some of the pies will get together and compare notes towards the middle of the month, so prepare to bunk in your shed while associates are shedding you.

Taurus (Apr 21-May20): My, won’t your April start off with a bang! Just when your Sun swings into Taurus, a full Moon jumps into Scorpio across from you, and clubs you right in the noggin. Whether you stand still stunned, or rampage in a rage, tearing up the turf in your paddock, is up to you.

Gemini (May 21-June 21): Passing influences cast a chilling breeze over your newly planted rows. This does not mean that your seedlings will not prosper, merely that you should keep a finger in the air, and cosset the sprouts during expected frosts on the third weeks of April and May.

Cancer (June 22-July 22): Those pincers will be clacking big time starting April 12, when your Moon and Mars get together for a play date in your pergola. Ignore their suggestions that you rip up everything and start all over again. Show some restraint, and edit, don’t demolish.

Leo (July 23-Aug 22): For most of April, your thumb is green, and you inhabit your own microclimate. While you are, for a time, protected from the elements, the dome will be taken off mid May, and should you utilize this quiet time for sticking to your regimen (or starting one), you will be a prize winning bloom, without the Miracle-Grow.

Virgo (Aug 23-Sept 22): Fight the tendency to throw off too many lateral roots and suckers; you’re in danger of being declared an invasive species, which will lead to being pulled out by the roots. Consider your neighbors before you make another power grab for all the things that make your current situation viable

Libra (Sept 23-Oct 22): Everything may be coming up roses, but you need to have a care to keep the grubs off your buds before you fully blossom. While you are not unaware that the Garden of Earthly Delights can turn savage, you have been a bit lax about warding off admiring hands. Time to put out a few thorns.

Scorpio (Oct 23-Nov 21): All those trines in April and May would be, for some, a willow fence that would keep others within bounds, but not you. They lift up the underbrush, keep the gates from fully closing, and dare you to go a’ wandering. Could you ask for anything more?

Sagittarius (Nov 22-Dec 21): Time to face the consequences of putting your roots down too deeply, you’ve become pot bound. Keep in mind that circumstances change with time. Your present constrictions can either be an excuse for wilting, or an opportunity to gather your strength to bust through at the end of May.

Capricorn (Dec 22-Jan 19): Dust off those master plans, and stake out a daring new group of gardens for yourself. If there was ever a time to gather whims and put them into action, the end of April would be it. Just don’t improvise, work from your original concepts.

Aquarius (Jan 20-Feb 18): Don’t be Koi. Just because the tines of Neptune’s trident are stirring up the sediment at the bottom of your pond, it’s only to expose the lotus seeds hidden in the muck. As they reach up to the light in May, so should you. By the time their delicate blossoms surface, so should you, to the admiration of all.

Pisces (Feb 19-Mar 20): Both the Esther Williams water spectacles and the Creature from the Black Lagoon depended on exotic plantings in the background to set the mood. Saturn in your deep focus, while Uranus slowly carries a potted palm through your life leads to a static frame, leads to a static frame in April. In May, attempt to uncurl your fronds.
