FROM THE EAST
Dear Brothers,
It is an honor to be serving the Master of Mariners Lodge this year. If you have attended the last few meetings before the summer break, you know that we have many exciting talks and events planned for this year. Our first meeting is a chance for our members to be immortalized by a group photo. All members of Mariners should attend this very rare event. If you have mobility issues, please call me at 347.613.6225 and arrangements can be made.
The general theme this year is Charity, and while Mariners has participated in many charities over the years, this year we will strive to extend our arms even wider and reach more deserving groups and individuals. Your participation is crucial for many of these to be realized, not with money but with your presence and participation.
I hope to see you all at our September meeting.
Fraternally,
W:. Charles Boyce
WM Mariners Lodge
FROM THE WEST
Dear Brothers,
Welcome back Mariners! Please remember that we will be meeting on the second Wednesday in the Doric room on the 8th floor. We're starting a new Masonic year on a new night and in a new room. And let us also bring a new spirit and energy to our labors as we begin building again. Each year gives us a chance to do things better. This year we're working to improve our programming, our educational and charitable efforts while performing the ritual with the fidelity and dignity it demands. But we can't do anything without YOU. Together we can make this a great year.
We will be holding monthly social events at a variety of restaurants and bars around town. These will be open to all and will be a great way to introduce any interested friends to the brothers. Rumor has it that our first event will be held in a Beer Garden in Queens, but we'll just have to wait for confirmation of that! For those of you with more sober and studious dispositions the Corsairs Club continues to meet monthly on the fourth Thursday. This month we meet on the 27th at the Sans Culottes East, 1085 Second Ave at 7pm. We will be discussing various aspects of ritual. This meeting is open to all. Please invite your friends, male or female to an evening of delicious food, wine and lively conversation.
Fellowship means spending time together, and this year we'll have plenty of opportunities to do just that. I'm looking forward to seeing you soon,
Fraternally,
Bro. Bill Gibbons, Sr. Warden
FROM THE SOUTH
Greetings From the South!
This has been a busy summer of observing the sun at meridian. As I've been basking in the sunlight, I've been thinking of ways that the corn of nourishment, the wine of refreshment and the oil of joy might be mixed together into a mortar that further cements the bonds of brotherly love among the brothers of Mariners Lodge . This Masonic season Mariners will have a renewed focus on brotherhood and social activities, and it is my privilege as Junior Warden to lead us from labor to refreshment -- not just at collation, but in what will be many social opportunities throughout the year. In particular, we hope to have a number of social occasions during the month in addition to our usual collations, pursuing activities as diverse as bowling, visitations with other Lodges and Masonic organizations, restaurant outings and even a late- night crawl through NYC's best speakeasies and elite cocktail lounges. The means of refreshment shall not be perverted to intemperance or excess, but as we partake of physical and spiritual refreshment together we are reminded of a primary reason we became Masons: the camaraderie of Friendship, the lessons in Morality we learn from one another, and the way we are joined together by Brotherly Love.
This month's collation will be nearby at Righteous Urban Barbecue, which was awarded top ranking by New York Magazine in 2006 and 2007. Among other treats, we'll be having a barbecued bone-in pork butt -- they smoke it whole, and you pull it yourself. It's as close as you're likely to get to a real pig pickin' North of the Mason-Dixon Line! Food cost should be under $25 a person.
Fraternally,
Bro. Sam Kinsey, Jr. Warden

HOROSCOPE August-September by W:. Leon Calafiore
Aries (Mar21-Apr20): Individuals will be arriving from the land of “Amuse me, nothing satisfies me”. Unfortunately, calling Immigration will not have the desired effect. You might want to put them in the spare room, and then have a third party call you away on urgent business. Play to your strengths.
Taurus (Apr 21-May20): Always humor the tedious and belligerent; that’s what Mother used to say (if only). Despite Mother’s shortcomings in the advice and marriage departments, it is my advice to you, during the lazy days of summer. Consider your passage through the season as some bizarre video game, or driver’s ed. film.
Gemini (May 21-June 21): What is the motivation for your character in this scene? After August 8, Mars allows you to be your own director, getting to make all the scene changes and edits that you want. Don’t get too artsy, produce a shooting schedule which does you credit. The critics will clamor for more!
Cancer (June 22-July 22): Don’t let opportunity pass you by! No matter your previous plans, leave August 8 and 9 open for social engagements. The dark Moon moving into your sign then will allow you to get practically anything or anyone one you want. Local laws and restrictions apply. Quantities limited, one to a customer.
Leo (July 23-Aug 22): While you might be hoping for some slow churned goodness during the dog days of summer, your best bet is a dark room with cold compresses applied as necessary. Mercury and Saturn will dredge up old pains and unresolved issues you’ve ignored. To salvage you summer composure, deal with them.
Virgo (Aug 23-Sept 22): Best to take things at your leisure in August, savoring your ability to have things go just your way, on your schedule. There’s a patch ahead (all of September) where your time will be devoted to only others; and not necessarily one’s you wish to deal with. Your birthday Moon brings in distant, needy relations.
Libra (Sept 23-Oct 22): Nancy Drew must have been one too. A Libra, I mean to say. A situation will soon arise which will require the use of your keen intellect and fashion sense. Make sure to have a full tank of gas in the roadster, you’re the only one who will be able to sort the mystery out.
Scorpio (Oct 23-Nov 21): Fight or flight time, amigos. Your tendency to let others have their way (you couldn’t be bother previously) will begin to impact on your piece and quiet. The better plan would be to remain the grownup, and resolve the problem with a minimum of comment. Mind that tongue!
Sagittarius (Nov 22-Dec 21): Pace yourself, if away during the month of August. Upon your return to your real life, you will be involved in a turf war; that’s right, chunks of sod will be hurled at your noggin. It may be a neighbor moving a property line, or you work assignments being encroached upon, but make no mistake; you need to protect what’s yours.
Capricorn (Dec 22-Jan 19): You have full run of the house, metaphorically speaking. As your time will be your own, make the best use of it; rather than sleeping in, be out and about. Those who love you would rather remember you as you should be, not with a grindstone eroded nose.
Aquarius (Jan 20-Feb 18):Just because you worship at the altar of (insert your preference here), doesn’t mean you have to bang your head on the ground in front of said altar. First, it will leave an unattractive pattern on your pate. Second, it will lead total strangers to make inquiries into your predilections. Third, it will ruin your pants, if wearing the same.
Pisces (Feb 19-Mar 20): Comport your baggage with dignity. You will, my dear, find yourself in situations where your true opinion of other is sought. As the inquirer is only seeking to stir up mud from the bottom of the pond. Be a wise Koi, and don’t rise to the bait.
